Spider Webs VS Soot Webs
Soot webs found after a fire in Chester IL
When I arrive to a home fire the owners are always embarrassed at all of the spider webs on their walls. This gives me a chance to help make them feel a little bit better about themselves by giving them the soot web speech.
The “dirty spider webs” along the edges and corners of your ceiling aren’t spider webs, they are "soot webs!"
With a sigh of relief, I explain, these features, called soot webs, form when ionized (i.e. has an electric charge) soot particles stick together in chains. They gather along the edges between your walls and ceiling because those areas tend to be cooler, which smoke likes to move to.
And there you have it, the soot web has been spun.
If you do have soot webs, don’t try to clean them yourself, call SERVPRO of Monroe, Randolph & Washington Counties and we can help make it "Like it never even happened." 618-464-0300
